Jean Elsen & ses Fils s.a. organises 3 international auctions a year, offering Celtic, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, medieval, oriental and modern coins as well as medals, tokens and decorations from all periods. At least one of the auctions offers numismatic books.

Highlights auction 162

Public auction 162 – 13 & 14 Juni 2025

The public auction 162 will take place on 13 and 14 June 2025. We will start on Friday 13 June with selections of ancient Greek, Roman and medieval coins, including a superb decadrachm of Syracuse signed by the master engraver Kimon. After that we will present the Jacques Druart collection of coins of the Low Countries, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, with a series of siege and necessity coins. The 14 June session will continue with a special collection of patagons from the Spanish Netherlands, the coins of the Low Countries, a collection of coins of Naples and Sicily and a selection of shipwreck coins. The auction will end with the modern and oriental coins, the jetons and medals.

Highlights auction 161

Public auction 161 - 21 & 22 March 2025

On Friday 21 March, we will offer a selection of ancient Greek, Celtic and Roman coins, followed by the Byzantine coins, the medieval coins, the coins of the Low Countries and the kingdom of Belgium. On Saturday 22 March, we will present the modern coins, including an exceptionnal multiple of 10 excelentes of Fernando and Isabella struck in Segovia. The last session of the auction will be dedicated to the oriental coins, banknotes, jetons, medals and orders.

Highlights auction 160

Public auction 160 - 14, 15 & 16 November 2024

Our 160th public auction will take place on 14, 15 and 16 November 2024. The first day of the auction will start with the ancient and medieval coins. After that we will present the third and last part of the exceptional collection of coins of the Principality of Liège, including the silver deniers and oboles from the end of the 10th to the 13th century. The 15 November session will begin with the coins of the Low Countries and of Belgium, followed by an important collection of French gold coins from Napoléon I to the Third Republic. We will continue on 16 November with the world and oriental coins, the jetons, medals and orders. The auction will end with the sale of the Harry Dewit library.

Highlights auction 159

Public auction 159 - 21st & 22nd of June 2024

This catalogue is fully dedicated to the sale of the Harry Dewit collection, that was donated to the Société Royale de Numismatique de Belgique. The collection is composed of ancient (Greek, Celtic and Roman), medieval and modern coins. It is mainly focused on the coins, jetons, mereaux and medals of the Low Countries and Belgium.

Public auction 158 - 22 & 23 March 2024

The first day of the auction will start with the ancient and medieval coins. After that we will present an important collection of coins of the Low Countries (Burgundian, Spanish and Austrian Netherlands), with impressive series of Brabant and Tournai. We will go on with the second part of the exceptional collection of coins of the Principality of Liège, from the end of the 13th to the 16th century. The 23 March session will begin with the coins and essais of Belgium, followed by a collection of coins of Spain and the New World. We will continue with the French coins and conclude with the world and oriental coins, the jetons, medals and orders.

Our auction 157 will take place on 8 and 9 December 2023. It will be a general auction, including ancient, medieval and modern coins, banknotes, jetons, medals and orders. On Friday 8 December, we will offer a selection of ancient Greek, Celtic and Roman coins, followed by the Byzantine and medieval coins. On Saturday 9 December, we will present the coins of the Low Countries, followed by the modern coins. The last session of the auction will be dedicated to world and oriental coins, the J.-C. Martiny collection of paper money of Belgian Congo, the jetons, medals and orders.

Public auction 156 - 15 & 16th September 2023

Our auction 156 will take place on 15 and 16 September 2023. The first day of the auction will be dedicated to the ancient coins, including Greek and Celtic coins, a collection of Roman republican coins, Roman imperial coins, medieval coins and the Low Countries. On the second day, we are honoured to present an important collection of coins of the Principality of Liège, from the 16th to the 18th century, including many specimens of high quality and great rarity. We will continue with the coins of Belgium, world coins, jetons, medals and orders.

Public auction 155 - 16 & 17th June 2023

Our auction 155 will take place on 16 and 17 June. On the first day of the auction we will present the Marc Bar collection of ancient Greek coins, followed by a collection of oriental Greek coins, the Celtic coins, a nice collection of the Roman Republic and the Roman imperial coins. The 17 June will be dedicated to a selection of Roman provincial coins, the medieval coins, a collection of coins of Bretagne, the Low Countries and Belgium, a collection of French coins, world coins, jetons and medals. We will end the auction with the orders, including important decorations from Jean-Baptiste Nothomb (1805-1881).

Our auction 154 will take place on 17 and 18 March. On the first day of the auction we will present the ancient coins: Greek and Celtic coins, a collection of Roman coins and a collection of Byzantine gold coins. The second day of the auction will be dedicated to the medieval and modern coins, the jetons and medals.
